The eight different species of whales and dolphins regularly sighted in the Mediterranean, replicated here to actual size, are all present in the Pelagos Sanctuary, which serves as an important feeding and breeding area for all of them. This stretch of sea is also 2characterized by high levels of anthropogenic pressure, however, and there are many threats to the survival of the animals, including habitat degradation, chemical and noise pollution, intensive fishing, the effects of climate change, and intense maritime traffic, which creates disturbance caused by boats and serious risk of collisions between large ships and cetaceans.
